Recommended Resources

I have gotten hundreds of emails asking me what books I read, podcasts I listen to, not to mention tools and resources I use for managing money, hacking my expenses and running my business.

I’ve created this page so you have a handy reference to those resources.

I’ll update this page periodically as I discover new tools, so consider bookmarking it!

Learn

Money

I’ve read scores of books on finance and real estate.  Some were great others… well not so great. Below are my top recommended MUST reads and podcasts on learning how money works, how to think “wealthy”, and how to earn income as an investor.

  • The Richest Man in Babylon  – Great primer on how to manage money
  • Rich Dad Poor Dad – Learn how the wealthy think and earn money
  • Cashflow Quadrant – A followup to Rich Dad Poor Dad, this book dissects how money is earned and how to shift where you earn your income and get true wealth and time freedom.
  • Killing Sacred Cows – This book is a sales pitch for cashflow life insurance.  Now that you know this, set that aside, and be prepared for your mind to be blown about the myths we’ve all grown up believing about money.
  • Simple Path to Wealth – If learning how to be an investor just isn’t your thing, this book walks you through how to invest in the stock market in a logical way.
  • Credit Karma – Yes, this isn’t a book, but a website, however I put it here because that is just how darn important this is.  Having great credit…this one little number… will open so many doors for you as an investor (or even getting your next job).  Sign up for a FREE account with and be in the know!

Prioritization and Mindset

I could geek out all day on productivity tips, tricks and tools (to the point where I’m not being very productive!).  But I wanted to keep this VERY simple for you and offer up the two of the most power concepts that have impacted my life.  Both books are MUST reads…. And re-reads!

  • The ONE Thing: The Simple Truth to Extraordinary Results – Want to have less clutter, distractions and stress, and more focus, energy and success? This book is about TIME … TIME is your most valuable resource in life (it’s the one resource that is non-renewable!).
  • Claim Your Power – I’m not even going to try and write anything.  Mastin Kipp says it best. “When you Claim Your Power, you don’t change the past or what happened, but you do change how you relate to it – and that is how you change your future for the better. The greatest power you can claim is that of your life’s purpose and the Claim Your Power book is a step-by-step process to bring your purpose to life.” Mastin Kipp has a free 40-day course that follows the book.  Click here.

Real Estate

Getting started in real estate? Looking to scale as an investor?  Below are my favorite real estate investing books and tools broken down by category.

Business

Thinking you have to have an MBA to be a successful investor or run your own business? Start with these reads and shortcut your learning on business and operations (and save yourself $80K!).

  • Personal MBA – Great primer on business administration.
  • The E-Myth – Systems, systems, system! ‘Nuf said.

Podcasts I Listen To

When I started learning about real estate, I had never listened to a podcast EVER!  Now, I’ve listened to enough podcasts to probably earn a college degree in finance and real estate.  Podcasts allow me to digest tons of info for free and at a rapid pace (not to mention I listen at 1.5 speed!).  Additionally, I get to learn about other people’s businesses and then get their direct contact to network with them.  Turn your phone or computer into a mobile university and a networking machine.

Grow

After years of “shiny object” syndrome, below are the simple tools I use today to track and grow my wealth.  Some of the links below are affiliate links. They cost you nothing to use, and we both get added perks!

Credit Score

Having great credit will open so many doors for you as an investor.  Sign up for a FREE account with Credit Karma and be in the know!

Finance

  • Personal Capital – Track all of your accounts, transactions, budgets, and investments in one spot for FREE.  You can also run different financial planning scenarios.
  • Vanguard – Vanguard has some of the best funds and lowest fees for paper asset investing.
  • M1 Finance – M1 is also FREE to invest you can pick individual stocks or a pre-built portfolio.

Credit Card Hacking

Last year my husband and I added nearly $12,000 worth in credit card points to our bottom line (shoutout to ChooseFI!).  Below are our favorite cards, in the order we opened them (if you are married, DON’T put your spouse on them… have them eventually open their own to earn bonus points too!).  Also, if you have horrible credit or are not good with credit, think twice for opening lines of credit! The links are affiliate links and cost you nothing use, AND we both get extra bonus points.

Build

I remember getting into real estate and immediately being overwhelmed with how to build my team.  Especially on topics I had NO IDEA about. This is where I hope to save you some time with my trusted referrals.  Be certain to put the person you are looking for in the subject line (ie. RE: Cashflow Life Insurance).

  • Lenders
  • Lawyer
  • CPA
  • Disability Insurance
  • Cashflow Life Insurance
